The Link: Youth and Family Supports launched its newest social enterprise Velotecha in Winter of 2020. Hailed as Winnipeg’s newest bike service, Velotecha is a practical response to winter storage challenges for bike commuters and a way to help youth in our community gain valuable employment skills and references.
Velotecha offers autumn curbside pickup and spring delivery of the bikes that Winnipeggers don’t plan on using over winter, but want their ride ready to go when they are come next spring. The bonus is that MYS youth will apprentice under a lead bike mechanic by performing the repairs over winter, Each worker will be able to build their resume with real experience as they enter the workforce.
Challenge
The venture is a joint initiative between MYS and The WRENCH who will provide some additional mentorship and logistics. The WRENCH is well known for its many partnerships with Winnipeg schools and community organizations to train youth and the general public in bicycle mechanics; and has been offering bike building and repair services to Winnipeg and beyond for over 10 years.

This one-of-a-kind bike storage valet offers a big plus for anyone who has tried to get a bike fixed in the last year: priority service over winter skips spring wait times for service.

We’ll pick up your bike, tune it up, store it in our secure secret indoor location and then return it to you ready to ride just in time for spring.”
Velotecha offers four packages which include pickup delivery and storage, offering basic maintenance right up to a full rebuild. Tune up packs start at $134.99 all in, with pickups scheduled to begin on October 18 until we are full, delivery April 2022.
